Another day, another blowout. Francisco Liriano gave up nine runs, seven of them earned, over four innings as the Pirates lost 11-3 last night. The loss was the Pirates' seventh in a row.
Most of the specifics are pointless. The scoring opened in the second with an RBI single by Aaron Harang, who's a bad hitter even by pitcher standards. The Braves then added three in the third on a Justin Upton homer, then one in the fourth on a Jason Heyward single, then five more in the fifth on a little-known ballpark promotion called "Five For Five Tuesday," in which everyone in the ballpark gets five Evan Gattis smiley face cookies if 82 consecutive opposing batters reach base.
So ... what else? Andrew McCutchen returned and got a nice hand when he came to bat. And Brandon Cumpton got his first RBI, because why not, on an 18-hopper past shortstop. Other than that, though, this was the sort of game that's been all too typical recently.
