The Pirates have outrighted reliever Wirfin Obispo to Indianapolis, MLBTR's Zach Links reports. As far as I know, he shouldn't have the right to refuse the assignment. The Bucs designated Obispo for assignment when they claimed Ramon Cabrera from the Tigers last week.
The Pirates claimed Obispo from the Braves earlier this summer, and he remains an interesting pitcher with an interesting name. He isn't quite good enough to be on a 40-man roster when push comes to shove, but he represents good depth. With his 30th birthday next month, the odds of him having a big-league career aren't great, particularly given his troubles finding the strike zone. But he still throws in the mid-90s, and it wouldn't be a complete shock to see him improve his control and command a bit and have a couple decent seasons as a middle reliever in the big leagues. For now, he's a nice player to have at Triple-A.
