The Pirates will promote Jose Tabata to take Gregory Polanco's spot on the active roster, Ken Rosenthal writes. They're also expected to activate Clint Barmes sometime soon, which will require another move.
I've already seen a fair amount of outrage about the Pirates promoting Tabata and not Andrew Lambo, but I think it's misplaced. The Bucs probably just wanted an extra right-handed bat for the next week, which makes sense when, given the Pirates' current lineup construction, they're almost always going to have Pedro Alvarez or Ike Davis on the bench.
Lambo is, obviously, a lefty. He's also on the 40-man roster, which means he's likely to join the team anyway in less than a week, which is when rosters expand. The Bucs' treatment of Lambo confuses me a little bit, but I'm not sure this move should be a referendum on all that. They're just promoting a right-hander in time for a series against the Cardinals, who have a lefty-heavy bullpen.
