Your undefeated Pittsburgh Pirates hit the road to face the Orioles in Sarasota at 1:05 PM. I suppose this could change, but as of yesterday the scheduled lineup (sub. req’d) was as follows:
- Adam Frazier, 3B
- Phil Gosselin, 2B
- Andrew McCutchen, RF
- David Freese, 1B
- Elias Diaz, C
- Kevin Newman, DH
- Eric Wood, LF
- Austin Meadows, CF
- Alen Hanson, SS
Pitchers:
Jameson Taillon
Tyler Glasnow
Jared Hughes
Drew Hutchison
Tyler Webb
It’s good to see Hanson getting a start at short. It’s also interesting to see Cutch starting a road game so early in the spring. He mentioned yesterday that he wants to get off to a quick start this spring due to the WBC. Personally, I’m not crazy about seeing the whole starting outfield in that tournament, but the plus side will be the chance of an extended look at some other guys in March. Hopefully, the Pirates won’t waste all the opportunities on Danny Ortiz and Jason Rogers. Normally, a player in Meadows’ situation would be an early cut so he could get in more work in the minor league games, but this is a chance to get him some at-bats against major league pitchers. The same goes for players like Barrett Barnes and Eric Wood, among others.
