Michael Keaton Blasts Bucs' Frugality...

...McClatchy Grudgingly Agrees To Stand On Parade Float And Throw $20 Million At Crowd

This is awesome. Before tossing the first pitch at PNC today, actor Michael Keaton aimed his grappler at the Bucs' ownership:

"I fear they will take advantage of the good will of the people who continue to show up," he continued. "For my money, that's disrespectful. At some point, you either have to write the check or do something and not assume, well, we're OK and, ultimately, the franchise is valuable, anyway, like Donald Sterling did with the Los Angeles Clippers...

"Look, I'd do it, too, if I were a businessman," Keaton said. "But, at some point, you've got to win. I think fans have been gracious. And maybe not vocal enough. Maybe not vociferous enough with their displeasure. That's my opinion."

I agree. The Bucs' fans have been too gracious.

How bad have things gotten when the guy who throws the first pitch at the home opener feels the need to criticize the Pirates' owners before he does?

I agree
As much as I agree with Hunt Stevenson, the Pirate ownership has the fans by the short ones. Don't support the team and we'll simply put an even worse product on the field. Come out and support us and we'll make marginal additions that make it seem like we're trying. Oh, and it's all the Yankees fault - they spend a lot of money. In the meantime, we'll talk like we're trying, but don't examine us too hard or else you'll see the falacy of that statement.

I don't financially support the Pirates - I just don't and haven't for a good long while. This is not some community service project that needs my money or else - it is a business and I don't support bad business. If and when the Pirates get the charity status they probably think they deserve, I might donate for tax purposes. Until then, nada.

Who would have thought that Bill Blazejowski would call out the bosses like that?

Keaton
They actually showed some of what Keaton said on Sportscenter tonight.  National exposure is a good thing.
