Jose Bautista (MLB.com)
UPDATE: The Bautista projections are now closed.
I'm going to start projection threads for both Jose Bautista and Jose Castillo, since we don't know which will win a starting job and it's reasonably safe to assume that both will win a bunch of playing time. Bautista's first. Will he continue the slump with which he ended his 2006 season? Or will he show power and patience en route to a strong season?
Let me know in the comments by predicting Bautista's 2007 batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
The Jack Wilson projections are still open. Freddy Sanchez is closed. Here are the results so far:
NAME | POS. | COMMUNITY | ZiPS |
Ronny Paulino | C | .271/.334/.414 | .272/.327/.378 |
Adam LaRoche | 1B | .281/.350/.539 | .279/.345/.526 |
Freddy Sanchez | 2B | .314/.360/.436 | .306/.348/.432 |
ZiPS and the community are largely in agreement yet again. The community thinks Sanchez will hit for a higher average than ZiPS does, and I think I agree with the community. Sanchez's batting average in 2006 was almost certainly fluky, but I don't think it's as fluky as most projection systems do. Sanchez's ability to adjust to pitches is outstanding.
