Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Community Projection: Ian Snell

UPDATE: The Snell projections are now closed.

Next up in our projections: Ian Snell. Will Snell get his homers allowed in check by showing some brains and not throwing 0-2 fastballs right down the middle? Will he be able to keep up his high strikeout rate?

Let me know in the comments by predicting Snell's 2007 innings pitched, ERA, strikeouts and walks.

The Zach Duke projections are still open. Xavier Nady is closed. Here are the results.

NAME POS. COMMUNITY ZiPS
Ronny Paulino C .271/.334/.414 .272/.327/.378
Adam LaRoche 1B .281/.350/.539 .279/.345/.526
Freddy Sanchez 2B .314/.360/.436 .306/.348/.432
Jack Wilson SS .273/.314/.373 .270/.312/.377
Jose Bautista 3B/OF .255/.343/.436 .255/.338/.431
Jose Castillo 2B/3B .259/.307/.404 .256/.304/.388
Jason Bay LF .294/.398/.564 .278/.378/.521
Chris Duffy CF .285/.340/.387 .274/.326/.389
Xavier Nady RF .281/.338/.452 .280/.340/.467

Wow. I think this may be a first - we're more pessimistic than ZiPS. PECOTA is slightly more optimistic even than ZiPS is. Maybe Nady's power-free couple of months in Pittsburgh are coloring our judgement too much?

Ian Snell
4.45/200/180/75, and 15 wins

I'm not sure Snell will significantly reduce the number of gopher balls allowed, but he should show improvement this year.

It's weird how close the community gets to ZIPS. So what do we need ZIPS for?

Wrong question
What are we needed for, when a computer can do our jobs?

Yikes!
Snell: 200 IP, 4.25 ERA, 75 BB, 190 K.

I guess it's warm where you're at. Dammit.

Snell
4.50/200/175/80

I have a feeling everyone is going to be fairly close on Snell, except a few people may post high strikeouts.

Snell
4.30/180/160/80

Pretty much a replication of last year, though I suspect (for no good reason, really) his HR/9 will go down.

Snell

His most similar player according to Baseball Reference's stats is... Roy Halladay :O

Ian busts out
4.00/200/200/80

High ERA because of a few extra taters.

Snell
4.20/180/160/60

I expect his HR-happy ways to diminish. Snell will give up between 18-22 HR's in 2007.
