Brewers Catch Cubs

The Brewers defeated the Astros 9-1 Tuesday night, and the Cubs lost to the Reds, so the Brewers have reclaimed a share of first place. Actually, they technically have first place to themselves - the Cubs have played two more games than the Brewers and have one more loss, so the Brewers' W-L percentage is slightly higher, and they control their own destiny. If they win the rest of their games, they're in. Obviously, though, that's easier said than done, and tonight it actually got tougher, since they lost Ben Sheets, who left the game in the second inning tonight with a hamstring problem.

Mets lose
and Phils trying to hang on in the 10th vs. Cards and win a game in which they've scored four runs on three hits -- with 10 walks.

The Cards
just tied it on a sac fly with two outs in the tenth.

Do you have
money on this one, or do you just hate the Cards that much?

No money, not much hate
Just would like to see the Mets get taken down.

So I guess there's hate after all.

I wonder
how many baseball fans who claim to hate the Cardinals drink nothing but Budweiser.

The Cards' current lineup
  1. Branyan 1B
  2. Miles 2B
  3. Cairo 3B
  4. Falkenborg P
  5. Ankiel CF
  6. Stinnett C
  7. Schumaker LF
  8. Ludwick RF
  9. Barden SS
And to think I briefly thought the Phillies were giving up by putting in Jose Mesa!

48 players
have been used in this game, including Albert Pujols, who just came in to pinch hit.

FWIW
I see Kip Wells was a major contributor to the Phillies cause.
