Littlefield FIRED!!!!

The Post-Gazette reports.

Way to go Nutting!!!

I'm guessing the display of the fruits of our farm system yesterday had an effect on our team's front office. There is hope for us estranged fans!

Now there's a new game we can play: who's going to be the next GM? I'm holding out hope for Paul DePodesta, but with our current manager that likely is not a possibility. Then again, maybe this signals the deathknell of Tracy as well.

yeah!
The clouds have parted. No more double-talk, no more saying things that don't mean anything, no more speaking in generalities without answering questions, no more, no more, no more!!!

just this once
on a normal day i would counter by saying that there's no indication we'll hire a GM that won't just do the exact same sh1t...

... but this isn't a normal day.  today we can be hopeful.  i agree.  no more of any of that.

wow
This is real good news for the Bucs.  Any ideas on whether this signals a real sea change or more of the same?

It doesn't matter...
...unless Nutting decides that he doesn't want to suckle from the teat of MLB's revenue sharing and spend some money to make the team better.

You could have had a hybrid of Mark Shapiro and John Scherholtz(sp) running this team...if the owner doesn't spend money, you will do cheap things...like pass on Weiters for Moskos.   And let your Dominican facility crumble...

congrats.
from a brewer fan, upgrading the GM is huge.

The big turnaround in Milwaukee came after new ownership. So don't give up the good fight. One more step.

:)

Hallelujah!!!
It's about time! I wonder if yesterday's "performance" by Bullington/Van Benschoten triggered it. Who's going to handle the Dave Littlefield radio show in Sunday?

Presumably the new GM will be hired by the new CEO,.  Let's get somebody good!

CEO imminent?
In his comments, Nutting said that he fired Littlefield now (instead of after the season) to "ensure that the organization is in the best possible position to attract the very best general manager candidates." This is obviously a reaction to Houston's expeditious and fairly sweeping GM interview process.

Nutting wants to be in a position to interview and hire the right GM without too much interference from other GM searches, like Houston's. Which means he might act quickly. And I highly doubt Nutting would name a GM without having a CEO in place to oversee and approve the hire.

I think this means that a new CEO might be named soon. Nutting is pretty secretive about this stuff, so while there aren't many reports about the process, it wouldn't be too surprising if he announced a new CEO by the end of the month. (I still can't figure out who the CEO candidates might be.)

Regardless, today is a great day. It's the first time in years that I've felt some hope and excitement about the Pirates.

Honestly
I've haven't felt this happy about the Bucs since summer of '97!

Littlefield
I thought LF might have new life since the Pirates have shown some improvment of late. It is time for a change though. LF Seemed to me that he would get a haircut everyday. Point is, that any person who cared about their appearance a much as LF didn't have much time to study a winning team.
