Link Roundup: Yovani Gallardo Hurt

-P- Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo will have knee surgery after tearing some cartilage there. He's supposed to miss four weeks and will probably open the season on the DL. This is a big problem for the Brewers if Gallardo is out of action for too long.

-P- Via Primer, this prank that our friend Brett Myers pulled on Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick is pretty priceless. Kendrick's reaction is captured on video here.

-P- The Marlins are planning the details of a new ballpark.

-P- Moneyball catcher Jeremy Brown is retiring, which kind of marks the end of an era. Brown, you'll recall, was the guy Billy Beane's scouts mocked for having fat legs. Beane took him in the first round anyway. Brown hit decently in the minors, but not nearly well enough, and he needed three seasons to get out of Class AA. If anything, he's proof that you need to listen to your scouts. That's not his fault, though, and he did get a cup of coffee in the majors, which is more than most prospects get.

prank
What an amazing prank - very funny.  Brett Myers obviously thought that one through and put in a lot of ground work.  I always admire elaborate pranks like that - they're difficult to pull off.  Looks like Kendrick had a good sense of humor about it too.  Myers is lucky Kendrick didn't go ballistic for the cameras, but these days (most) athletes are too media-savvy for that.

Too bad Myers is such a dirtbag.

Brown
Actually, he looks good enough to be at least a quality backup in terms of skill: .276/.364/.469 at AAA translates as just fine for a catcher.

The retirement is supposedly a result of "personal issues", which is kind of a shame, since the kid can really play. Hopefully, he'll be able to straighten things out (whatever they are) and come back; the A's have said that they'd welcome a return, if he changes his mind.

Yeah
He got confirmation he won't be on the 25-man and a promise for a minor league contract if/when he wants to come back before deciding to retire to deal with whatever it is he needs to deal with.
