Tom Gorzelanny to Miss Start with Shoulder Trouble

No! No no no. The organization assures us it's minor; we'll see if we can trust the new guys on that. If this were Dave Littlefield saying the same thing, it'd surely mean Gorzelanny would have to have three surgeries and be out for at least a year. That may not be the case this time, but given the way Gorzelanny was overworked by Jim Tracy last year, nothing would surprise me.

Just let em play
Why not do what it takes (cut, trade, or whatever) to get McCutchen and Pearce in the starting lineup at the beginning of the season.  So what if they are not ready, play em.  Cutch in center is already better than anything the Bucs have and Pearce will only get better.  Yes they may have a few holes in their game, but who doesn't on this team????  Pearce could get his bats with this lineup if he could platoon in left, right, and 1st, plus he would make the bench much better.  Just let em play.

Pitching
This is the one problem I have with pinning improvement hopes on what's already here. We don't know how much damage Tracy and Colborn did to our pitching staff last year trying to save their jobs.

It really would not surprise me at all if they really screwed up Gorzo, he was the most likely candidate based on September.

My mind is deserting me right now, but I vaguely remember reading an article about one of the Pirates relievers, either Sharpless (I think) or Bayliss, saying that the dynamic duo messed with his motion last spring, and the terrible numbers after that got him sent down.

Sharpy said it
in todays PG

"They tried to change my mechanics in the spring," Sharpless said, referring to previous pitching coach Jim Colborn. "I got away from some of my strengths, and I needed to get that back."

Trust me
Same thing going on with the Pens right now.  Hossa comes to us in a three player trade and goes down with an MCL sprain the first game.

Granted no surgery is necessary (as of now), but people sure are having a field day with it.
