There's no real story here, except in that Jason Bay and the Pirates are now negotiating a contract for five years or more. Wow. Paul Meyer mentions the recent Rocco Baldelli contract in the article; hopefully any contract that goes more than four years will include club options or incentives packages to mitigate the risk. Still, I'm not going to fret too much about this - I'm pleased the Pirates are actually planning to take a risk after years of low-risk, low-upside (and some stupid-risk, no-upside) general managing.
