I know this is just a rumor, but if it actually happened it would be the ultimate evidence of in support of Michael Lewis' thesis that front office hirings usually have far more to do with connections and status than talent or creativity. "Let's see, we've got a guy here who has made exactly two trades that really helped his team in four years, took three years to figure out how the Rule 5 draft worked, acquired Randall Simon twice, drafted horribly, almost completely failed to improve a team that had nowhere to go but up when he took control of it, and once handled his roster construction so badly that other front office executives literally laughed at him and his organization in public... but he's from New England?!? Wow, sign him up!"
