Bobby Hill Traded to Padres

...For a player to be named later. Hill will be more useful to the Padres than he was with the Pirates, and the middle infield situation in San Diego isn't as crowded. Khalil Greene and Mark Loretta will start, and prospect Josh Barfield will probably start the year in Class AAA, so the only other middle infield options the Padres currently have on the 40-man are Geoff Blum and Sean Burroughs, neither of whom do nearly enough with the bat to make up for the fact that they're really both just third basemen. Barring more moves by the Padres [UPDATE: like resigning Eric Young], Hill will have a good shot at winning a bench job. Good luck to him.

Presumably, the PTBNL will be a marginal prospect, but that's better than nothing at all.
