John Perrotto reports that the Pirates are close to signing Bill Mueller to a three-year contract worth $13.5 million. Ugh. This wouldn't be as stupid as the Roberto Hernandez deal, but it would probably end up being much more harmful. It's one thing to sign bad players for one year, but for Dave Littlefield to screw the Pirates in 2007 and 2008, when they could be contending in spite of themselves, really upsets me.
