Thanks to Greg S., who stopped by in my absence to report that Oliver Perez has been placed on the 15 day DL after he broke his toe while kicking a laundry cart. First Jose Bautista, who lost a big chunk of 2003 after breaking his hand on a garbage can, and now Perez. When will our Pirates learn that there's no way to win a fight with an inanimate object, and yet there are many ways to lose?
The Pirates have called up Nate McLouth to take Perez' place. I haven't yet read anything about how the Pirates plan to use McLouth, but hopefully he'll be used more in a Ryan-Doumit-before-interleague-play-ended type of way (playing most of the time) rather than in a J.R. House or J.J. Davis kind of way.
