The Philly Daily News (registration required) reports that the Phillies' scouting director was in attendance to watch Kip Wells get pounded yesterday. Scouts from Toronto, Tampa (Tampa? Maybe they were scouting someone from the Cubs?), Arizona, Detroit and St. Louis were present as well. The article suggests a possible trade of Wells and Humberto Cota (the Phillies have little to speak of at catcher after the aging Mike Lieberthal) for first baseman Ryan Howard. Howard, 25, hit .371/.467/.690 in 210 at bats in AAA this year and has hit .240/.318/.453 in 75 at bats in the majors.
Would such a trade be fair, or not? Vote on the poll on the side.
