BoSox Officially Win Right to Negotiate With Matsuzaka

For fifty-one million dollars. That's, like, eight Jeromy Burnitzes, and that doesn't even include the money they're going to have to pay to get him under contract. It's more than the Bucs' 2006 payroll. Matsuzaka better be as good as advertised.

In other news, the Mets re-signed Orlando Hernandez to a two-year, $12 million deal, and Jose Valentin to a one-year, $3.8 million deal. The Valentin deal seems fine, but the El Duque deal seems like quite a lot for someone who's at least 38. This offseason is going to be a wild one.
