Remember back in the 2003-2004 offseason, when the Mariners signed Scott Spiezio to a three-year, $9 million contract? Mariners fans freaked out, and Spiezio indeed turned out to be completely worthless to them. He put up a .634 OPS in 2004, then went 3-for-47 in 2005. But, after a decent season in which he put up an .862 OPS for the Cards, he has re-signed with them for not much less per year than that original deal that Mariners fans justifiably pitched a fit over. Obviously, he's three years older now, and he has a .703 OPS the past three years. This is a waste of money.
