No one should expect the Pirates to make the same kind of jaw-dropping offer for free-agent right-hander Jeff Suppan that the Royals did for right-hander Gil Meche.
Still, the Pirates are "well into the fray" in the bidding for Suppan, according to a source close to the negotiations -- and their final offer is expected to be competitive, at the very least.
