Via Primer, the Red Sox have signed Daisuke Matsuzaka to a six year deal worth at least $52 million. The deal could be worth as much as $60 million because of escalator clauses.
So, if I understand the situation correctly, this is essentially a six-year contract worth $103-$111 million for the Red Sox, given that they also paid $51.1 million for the right to negotiate with Matsuzaka.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have offered Vernon Wells a seven-year, $126 million extension.
