-P- The biggest name on the non-tender lists so far is Joel Pineiro, who has had some success and is still relatively young, but has struggled badly since being shut down in 2004 with elbow problems. Also non-tendered were Aaron Guiel, Alexis Gomez and Victor Zambrano.
-P- The Padres signed Jose Cruz, Jr. to a one-year deal worth $650,000. Cruz had a bad year in 2006, but this is still a bargain for the Padres - Cruz has probably always disappointed his employers since his career year as a 27-year-old in 2001, but he has quietly been just about an average player since then. He's usually decent offensively and solid defensively. Even if his decline in 2006 was real, he should be a good bench player.
