Ten million dollars for one year! Wow, that's a lot of money, and Maddux gets a $7 million player option in 2008, too. That's a ton of money for a 41-year-old average starter, even if he will be a Hall of Famer. The player option is the really bad part - if everything goes as planned, Maddux just gets his $10 million and gives the Padres 200 league-average innings. If things don't go well, the Padres are on the hook for $17 million.
