Wow - if you're going to dump a starter, this is the way to do it. With four strong and fairly reliable starters and Brandon McCarthy knocking on the door, the White Sox traded Freddy Garcia to the Phillies for pretty much the Phillies' two best minor leaguers, pitchers Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez, the latter of whom was traded to the Phillies in the first place by the White Sox, in the Jim Thome trade. (Granted, the Phillies' system isn't strong, and I'm not counting the electrifying Cole Hamels as a minor leaguer.) Floyd could be a credible rotation option pretty much right away for the Sox if they need him to, and Gonzalez is has a ton of upside. Garcia, meanwhile, will be a free agent at the end of the season.
