I'm surprised by the news that Craig Wilson asked for an extension as recently as this offseason and the Bucs wouldn't listen. I'm not surprised that the Bucs weren't interested, though - I'm surprised Wilson was. If I'm him, I want out of Pittsburgh as soon as possible.
This is purely hypothetical, of course, since we're talking about an organization that doesn't even think Wilson should be a starter, but what do you think of the idea of signing Wilson to, say, a two-year extension? Is it a good idea? And if so, how much would you pay? I'm not sure Wilson will still be a good player in two years, but given the Pirates' awful record of finding corner players who can hit on the free agent market, I'm not sure I wouldn't want to go ahead and take the gamble anyway.
