Santos, Suppan (MLB.com)

8:10 PM, FSNP, KDKA

Victor Santos (1-2, 5.85) vs. Jeff Suppan (0-2, 9.00). The good news is that Suppan didn't pitch well against the Cardinals last Tuesday, while Santos was downright good last Wednesday against the Cardinals. The bad news is that Suppan blossomed into a pretty good pitcher beginning when he was with the Bucs in 2003, and with Santos, well, we're still waiting. Or maybe we've stopped waiting. Anyway, even if Santos pitches well, the Pirates need offense to win, and they haven't had that since, well, the last time they faced Suppan.

Here's the Box Score. The Bucs are down 2-0 at the end of the first. Fortunately, Tony LaRussa decided to put Scott Speizio and Gary Bennett in the lineup. If he hadn't, that inning might never have ended. The Cardinals' juxtapositions of amazing and horrible in their lineup never cease to amaze me.
