Oliver Perez (7-5, 5.85) vs. Doug Davis (11-11, 3.84).

Opening Day! Davis has quietly been one of the better pitchers in the NL over the last two seasons, eating tons of innings, striking batters out and keeping his ERA below 4. In terms of stuff, he's nothing like Perez (well, hopefully); he gets batters out by hitting his spots and changing speeds. His fastball isn't (fast), but he also throws curveballs and good cutters. He had a bad spring.

...Bucs lose, 5-2, as (statistically, at least) very impressive work by Perez was squandered by new jillionaire Salomon Torres, with help from Damaso Marte and Matt Capps. Jose Castillo and Sean Casey doubled for the Bucs, though Casey also managed to hit into two double plays.Van Slyke has a good post about the game.
