Pittsburgh vs. Arizona, 24 May 2006

Box Score - no Burnitz!

6:40 PM, FSNP, KDKA

Zach Duke (2-5, 4.19) vs. Miguel Batista (3-2, 4.78). We last saw Batista on May 9, when he pitched a quality start against the Pirates. Of course, the term "quality start" really should mean something different when you're pitching against the Pirates. You could pitch badly and still win handily, and anyway "quality" isn't really the point. The point, really, is to show up and be able to throw the ball... well, anywhere between the two dugouts, so that you or one of your relievers can collect a W.

Miguel Batista isn't a bad pitcher, but statistically, he's about as boring as it gets. Rather than pretending that I'm excited by the prospect of a matchup between a mediocre pitcher and a horrible team, I think I'll share with you some of the recent arrivals to the "Bulk" folder of my inbox:

-P- John Hews says he has a way to get me to lose weight and stop smoking immediately.

-P- micheal_adams2 has sent an attachment regarding an oil contract.

-P- Martin Kessler's subject simply reads, "electronic mail loathsome." So poetic, Martin. And so true.

-P- The INTERNATIONAL PRIZE AWARD DEPT advises me that my "EMAIL WON THE LOTTERY."

-P- Finally, Bettye Cassidy wants to tell me something about a "graceful russian Girl!" I bet she wouldn't have missed that grounder at first yesterday.
