Gorzelanny, Gonzalez Head to DL

Jonah Bayliss, Marty McLeary (MLB.com)

The Pirates' pitching staff officially took a huge hit today, as Tom Gorzelanny and Mike Gonzalez were placed on the Disabled List. Britt Reames has been placed on the Terrible List and has been sent to Indianapolis (although he may come back to Pittsburgh when rosters expand in a few days). The Pirates have recalled pitchers Jonah Bayliss, Marty McLeary, and Brian Rogers to replace them. McLeary and Rogers will have to be added to the 40-man roster.

The Post-Gazette also reports that it is "highly unlikely" Gorzelanny will pitch again this year.

Rogers and McLeary were pitching fine at Indianapolis, but neither seems especially likely to pitch well for the Bucs; Rogers, whom the Pirates acquired for Sean Casey, has mediocre stuff and hasn't pitched much above Class AA, and McLeary is a journeyman. Bayliss is exciting, though - not only was he pitching well for Indianapolis, he has dynamite stuff.

Here are WTM's profiles on the Bucs' new pitchers:

Bayliss
McLeary
Rogers

Here's a report by Azibuck on a game McLeary pitched earlier this year.
