-P- Brian Lawrence, the former Padres starter the Pirates were interested in, has signed with the Rockies for one year plus a club option. Lawrence has pretty serious injury problems, so the Bucs probably aren't missing out here. This post at USS Mariner explains pretty well why missing out on Lawrence isn't any big deal.
