The Post-Gazette reports that Luis Matos is very likely to make the team as a backup outfielder.
Personally, I'd prefer a backup outfielder who can hit, but the Pirates don't have any. As Class AAA injury insurance, Matos is a nifty player to have around. But with three players (Chris Duffy, Nate McLouth and Jose Bautista) who can potentially play center already entrenched on the 25-man roster, it's a shame that the Pirates can't use that extra bench spot on someone who can provide some offense. Unfortunately, they'll probably be carrying Matos, Humberto Cota, and two utility infielders, plus Ryan Doumit. That doesn't have the look of a good bench.
