Lots of pretty interesting news today:

-P- AZ Snakepit thinks that Alberto Callaspo may get cut for allegedly beating his wife.

-P- The A's have signed Nick Swisher to a five year contract with a team option for 2012. The financial terms haven't been divulged yet.

-P- The Giants have designated Todd Linden for assignment. Linden's a 26-year-old switch-hitting outfielder who hit 30 homers in 340 at bats for Class AAA Fresno in 2005. If I were the Pirates, I'd be all over this one.

-P- The Devil Rays have acquired SS J. Wilson. No, not Jack, unfortunately. It's Josh Wilson, a journeyman who'd previously played with Washington. I saw "SS J. Wilson" in a Nationals boxscore a week or so and got pretty excited for a second. Anyway, the Nationals sent struggling SS Ben Zobrist to the minors.

-P- The Bucs rank 28th in Baseball Prospectus' recent hit list:

Capps has been one of the team's few productive players thus far; the Pirates are within sight of .500 despite being a dead-in-the-water 30th in OBP (.294) and EqA (.233)...
