The Pennant Chase, 20 September 2007

There are only ten games today. With their 6-3 win against the Pirates, the Padres have moved within a half game of the Diamondbacks, who are off today. Tom Glavine starts for the Mets against Dontrelle Willis and the Marlins tonight, while the Phillies send Kyle Lohse to face Jason Bergmann and the Nationals. The Phils are now two-and-a -half games back in the NL East and three games back in the Wild Card - it's looking increasingly likely that the Wild Card winner will be the second-place finisher in the West.

The Brewers, meanwhile, will look to make up some ground against the idle Cubs - they're starting Jeff Suppan against Jeff "Rule 5" Bennett, who had a mediocre year as a swingman for the Braves' Class AAA afilliate in Richmond. Bennett, who was taken from Pittsburgh by Milwaukee in the infamous 2003 Rule 5 draft, was decent in the Brewers organization in 2004 and 2005 but underwent Tommy John surgery in early 2006.
