Detroit Free Press: Littlefield Could Land with Tigers

If you happen to be eating or drinking anything, you may want to swallow it before reading the headline.

Pirates loss may be Tigers gain

Littlefield worked under Tigers president/general manager Dave Dombrowski while both were with the Florida Marlins, and industry executives have long speculated that Dombrowski would hire Littlefield as a special assistant if Littlefield lost his job as the Pittsburgh GM.

The article also speculates that Littlefield's firing could increase the chances of an offseason Jack Wilson deal on the grounds that Littlefield's "uncertain future" was the cause of the snag when the Pirates and Tigers were talking about Wilson in July and August. However, that seems unlikely to me, since the Pirates allowed Littlefield to take on Matt Morris' contract at the trading deadline.
