Via MLB Trade Rumors, ESPN Deportes reports that the Pirates and Astros are watching Bartolo Colon pitch in the Caribbean Series. Colon's trying to rehab after a rotator cuff injury, and he hasn't impressed anyone this winter - he's still a blimp, and his velocity is down into the mid- to high-80s. And he pitched miserably in the majors last year, posting a 6.34 ERA in 99 innings.
Still, the Pirates need pitching depth, and Colon, who was excellent as recently as 2005, seems like an interesting gamble if he's cheap. Really, is he that much more likely to be terrible than Matt Morris or Zach Duke?
