A's Sign Orlando Cabrera

One year, $4 million. Cabrera's 34 and might not have another good year left, but he's a reasonable gamble for Oakland and a nice upgrade over the disappointing Bobby Crosby. Unfortunately, they also give up a second-round pick.

The A's are also talking to Nomar Garciaparra, who's deciding whether or not to retire. Respectfully, if I were him, I would seriously consider it--there surely are still some people out there who remember how great he used to be, and if I were him I'd want to keep it that way. He's only a bench bat at this point.
