Drew Cumberland is a prospect in the Padres organization who is Rule 5 eligible.

His is a unique story. Always considered an exciting prospect, Cumberland has always had health issues that have held him and his prospect status, back. Most recently, he actually retired, citing severe vertigo as the cause of his decision.

Because of this, the Padres did not protect him when they needed to a few weeks ago. Now, according to this, Cumberland will be able to return to baseball.

He will turn 23 next month, and has never played any games above AA, and he only has 58 PA at AA. Still, he has solid upside, probably more than anyone else that is rule 5 eligible, and could probably be used a bench bat next year, backing up both Walker and Barmes.
