The Pirates have designated John Bowker for assignment to make way for outfielder Xavier Paul, Rob Biertempfel tweets. If you've paid attention to the chatter over the past couple days here, you know this isn't particularly surprising, as Paul and Bowker are both lefty-hitting bench outfielders. I like Bowker's offensive potential a little, but this obviously doesn't matter a whole lot, and there's at least a chance Bowker will get through waivers.
