Pirates To Promote Chase D'Arnaud, Alex Presley, Brad Lincoln

Just a quick recap of the roster moves the Pirates made a couple hours after I left my computer behind yesterday:

-P- Chase D'Arnaud will be promoted in time for today's game and Presley will be promoted Tuesday, with Josh Harrison and then Pedro Ciriaco heading back to Indianapolis to make room. The D'Arnaud/Harrison swap doesn't really make sense to me, but I won't complain, since I think D'Arnaud has more long-term potential than Harrison does.

The Ciriaco/Presley swap makes perfect sense and arguably should have happened a while ago, but the Pirates didn't want to do it because they wanted to have two backup infielders for series in National League parks. Of course, they've used Ciriaco very rarely both before and since. They're sending him down, so that's fine. Let us never speak of it again. Let's hope that Presley sticks around after the Blue Jays series in Toronto is over.

-P- Brad Lincoln will be promoted to make a spot start July 2 against the Nationals, with the Bucs demoting either D'Arnaud or a bullpen guy. Lincoln will then go back to Indianapolis, and Harrison will come back July 3, the first day he's eligible to - a player can't come back for 10 days after being demoted.

-P- Also, the Pirates have promoted Brandon Cumpton to Bradenton. Cumpton has pitched very well since beginning the season with a series of awful starts. Hopefully, he'll finish out the season well and be ready for the Altoona rotation in 2012.
