It was a very good performance by Charlie Morton, who relied heavily on his sinker and struck out seven batters in seven shutout innings, but that was about it. The Pirates got four hits, all singles, and ended up losing when Chris Resop allowed a solo homer to Starlin Castro in the eighth.
The Pirates are now below .500, at 54-55. It's great to see Morton pull himself together after two ugly starts, and it's nice to see Pedro Alvarez (who had two singles tonight) begin to hit a bit better, but the Pirates are at a point in the season where these little moral victories (like Derrek Lee's two homers in his Pirates debut a couple days ago) don't really matter if they aren't winning.
