The Pirates have recalled Jared Hughes in time for the doubleheader today, which starts at 12:35. A new clause in the CBA allows teams to add an extra player to their rosters for doubleheaders. Expect Hughes to be sent down once today's games are done. Given all the chatter we've heard about Clint Hurdle wanting two lefties, I'm a little surprised Daniel Moskos wasn't the Pirates' selection here. Not that it means much.
In the first game, Juan Nicasio will face James McDonald. In the second, it's Jhoulys Chacin and Charlie Morton.
Here's the Pirates' lineup for the first game.
Alex Presley LF
Jose Tabata RF
Andrew McCutchen CF
Neil Walker 2B
Casey McGehee 1B
Pedro Alvarez 3B
Clint Barmes SS
Michael McKenry C
James McDonald P
UPDATE 2:22 p.m.: McDonald pitched a no-hitter through six, but lost it when Troy Tulowitzki hit an infield single in the seventh. Tulowitzki hit a ball to the left of Pedro Alvarez and Alvarez dove to get it, but it caromed off his glove. McDonald then lost the lead on a sacrifice fly by Jason Giambi. The Rockies lead, 1-0. McDonald has seven strikeouts and three walks.
