Andrew McCutchen hit two two-run homers, driving in all four Pirates runs in a 4-3 victory over the Tigers Saturday. This afternoon's performance and Friday night's, if you combine them, form just about as perfect a microcosm of the Pirates' offense's season as I can imagine. (In a good sense, of course, as well as in the bad -- McCutchen is quickly becoming one of the league's best players.)

McCutchen's homers were the Pirates' only extra-base hits. Pedro Alvarez struck out three times, giving him 46 whiffs on the season and dropping his season line to .205/.269/.436. A.J. Burnett got through six innings, striking out two and walking three but allowing only two runs.

I'm on the road -- I went to a Potomac Nationals game tonight. I'll have more when I get back. I believe David is handling the recap tomorrow.
