The Pirates will reportedly promote Jeff Locke. It's not yet clear exactly why, but Locke was supposed to start for Indianapolis today, and Kevin Correia is the scheduled starter against the Tigers this afternoon. I had assumed that, if anyone would replace Correia, it would be Brad Lincoln, but maybe not. Or maybe there's an injury going on here that we don't yet know about.
Locke has a 3.02 ERA in 47.2 innings at Indianapolis, with 36 strikeouts, 10 walks and three home runs allowed. As you probably remember, he came up down the stretch last season and was awful, although he might have more success this time around if he can harness his command.
UPDATE: Actually, Jason Grilli is going on the bereavement list, so I assume Locke will pitch out of the bullpen. The Pirates probably recalled him because he's fresh and he's on the 40-man roster.
