Mets Vs. Pirates, 23 May 2012

You can use this thread as yesterday's game recap and as a gamethread for this afternoon's game (12:35, Jon Niese vs. Charlie Morton).

In last night's game, R.A. Dickey led the Mets to a 3-2 win, striking out 11 batters and walking none over seven innings, a familiar-looking line for starting pitchers opposing the Pirates. The Bucs struck out 13 times overall and didn't walk once. Josh Harrison doubled and tripled. James McDonald struck out eight and walked two while allowing one run over seven innings, making it the sixth straight start in which he struck out seven or more. However, Juan Cruz came on in the eighth and allowed a double and a walk, then a Lucas Duda RBI single on a ball that Garrett Jones couldn't get to at first. The Mets scored again later in the inning on an error by Pedro Alvarez. The Pirates got one back in the bottom of the eighth, but it wasn't enough.

Lineups for Wednesday:

Mike Baxter LF
Kirk Nieuwenhuis CF
David Wright 3B
Lucas Duda RF
Daniel Murphy 2B
Ike Davis 1B
Ronny Cedeno SS
Rob Johnson C
Jon Niese P

Josh Harrison RF
Gorkys Hernandez LF
Andrew McCutchen CF
Neil Walker 2B
Casey McGehee 1B
Rod Barajas C
Yamaico Navarro 3B
Clint Barmes SS
Charlie Morton P

That's a really ugly lineup right there, with four middle infielders, plus Gorkys Hernandez.

On the bright side, Jason Grilli has returned from the bereavement list. The Bucs sent Jeff Locke back to the minors.
