Pirates Minor League Roundup; Matt Hague Drives in Five, Gregory Polanco Four

Lots of action on Saturday, except for the DSL Pirates2, who were rained out:

-P- Indianapolis split a doubleheader with Toledo. The Tribe lost game one by a 3-1 count. Rudy Owens went six innings for a complete game, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks, with four strikeouts. Chase d'Arnaud and Yamaico Navarro each went 1-3 with a double. Starling Marte went 0-3. Indianapolis won game two, 9-3, as Matt Hague went 3-4 with a double and five RBIs. Jose Tabata also went 3-4 and Marte went 1-3. Bryan Morris got the win with three innings of relief in which he allowed a run on three hits and a walk, with one K.

-P- Altoona swept a doubleheader from Erie. The Curve took the first game, 5-1, as Phil Irwin went the seven-inning distance, allowing one run on four hits and no walks, with four strikeouts. Brock Holt and Quincy Latimore each went 2-3, with Latimore connecting for his 12th HR. Altoona won the second game, 1-0, with Mike Colla going four innings, Jeff Inman going two for the win, and Vic Black picking up his seventh save. The three combined to allow just three hits and fan nine. Black also gave up two walks in his half inning. The Curve had only four hits.

-P- Bradenton beat Tampa, 5-3. A long rain delay forced Colton Cain out after just two batters, but at least he's not hurt. Carlos Mesa hit a three-run HR, his second.

-P- West Virginia split a doubleheader with Delmarva. The Power took the completion of yesterday's suspended game, 9-1. Mike Jefferson, Robbie Kilcrease and Porfirio Lopez combined to allow just one hit and one unearned run. Gregory Polanco went 4-4 with a double and four RBIs, leaving his average at a team-high .326. Alen Hanson and Junior Sosa each went 2-4. Delmarva won the regularly scheduled game, 4-1. Robby Rowland pitched all seven innings, allowing ten hits and one walk, fanning four. Willy Garcia went 2-3 and supplied the only run with his 11th HR.

-P- State College stopped Williamsport, 5-2. Jason Creasy went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks, with five Ks. Dalton Friend followed with three scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk, and fanning three. When the Pirates drafted Friend he had the reputation of having very good but very erratic stuff. Since allowing six earned runs without retiring a batter in his first game, he has an ERA of 1.84 and 15 strikeouts in 14.2 IP. Barrett Barnes went 2-4 with two RBIs, and Tyler Gaffney went 1-2 with a double and two walks.

-P- The GCL Pirates shut out the Yankees, 9-0. Cesar Lopez allowed one hit and no walks over five innings, with two Ks. Elvis Escobar went 3-5 with a triple, Wyatt Mathisen was 2-4 with two doubles, Harold Ramirez and Stetson Allie each went 2-5, and Eric Wood went 2-4 with a double. Kevin Ross had his first pro hit, a double, in four ABs.

-P- The DSL Pirates1 lost to the Rangers, 3-1. Leandro Rodriguez allowed one run on one hit and three walks over four innings, fanning three. Cesilio Pimentel gave up two more runs on four hits and two walks in 3.2 IP. He struck out five.
