Pirates Minor League Roundup: Chris Leroux Starts and Does Well; Alex Dickerson Hits a Pair

Altoona got rained out and State College's game was suspended in the 7th with the score 4-4.

-P- Indianapolis opened the post-Marte era with a 5-1 win over Pawtucket. Chris Leroux, who threw four scoreless innings in relief just three days ago, started and threw five shutout innings. He allowed three hits and a walk, and fanned three. Bryan Morris gave up an unearned run in two and two-thirds innings. Jo-Jo Reyes, in his first game back in AAA, came on just to get the last out of the 8th, gave up a hit, then got Andy LaRoche to end the inning. Chase d'Arnaud, Matt Hague and Jeff Clement all went 2-4. D'Arnaud had a triple and Clement had two doubles. With Marte gone, #FreeBrockHolt has texted the Indians' manager: "Look at me, I can be Centerfield."

-P- Bradenton lost to Daytona, 9-7, despite a big day from Alex Dickerson. He went 4-5 with his 9th and 10th HRs, and four RBIs, edging his OPS over .800 to .809. Elevys Gonzalez went 2-3 with a double and a walk and Gift Ngoepe drew three walks. Casey Sadler had his worst start so far, allowing seven runs, six earned, in six innings.

-P- West Virginia lost to Greensboro, 9-6, when Porfirio Lopez gave up five runs in the 8th. Jose Osuna hit his 13th HR and Dan Gamache went 2-4 with a double. The Power's first three hitters--Taylor Lewis, Chris Lashmet and Gregory Polanco--combined to draw seven walks. Robbie Rowland allowed three runs in five innings on six hits and two walks. He didn't strike out anybody.

-P- The GCL Pirates failed to hold a one-run lead in the 9th, then lost to the Tigers in ten, 6-3. The Bucs outhit the opposition, 13-5, but hurt their own cause with four errors. Jin-De Jhang went 3-3 with two walks. Max Moroff, in his second pro game, went 3-4. Jesus Vasquez went 2-3 with a walk.

-P- The DSL Pirates1 parlayed eleven singles, ten walks, two hit batsmen and five opposition errors into a 10-5 win over the Yankees2. Arquimedes Lorenzo allowed a run in four relief innings on two hits and no walks, while fanning five. Carlos Esqueda, Maximo Rivera and Daniel Arribas each had a hit and two walks.
