The roundup of Friday's games:
-P- Indianapolis scored three in the first but nothing more after that, and dropped a 5-3 game to Pawtucket. Daniel Cabrera gave up all five runs, three of them earned. Evan Meek, back in AAA, retired all six batters he faced, three on strikeouts. Jeff Clement went 2-3 with his 3st double, 14th HR and a walk. Chase d'Arnaud and Jose Tabata each went 2-5.
-P- Altoona swept a doubleheader from New Hampshire. Phil Irwin threw a seven-inning, complete game two-hitter as the Curve took game one, 1-0. Irwin walked one and fanned nine. In his last six starts, he's averaged exactly seven innings and has a 1.29 ERA. In 42 innings he's allowed 29 hits, walked four and fanned 36. Stefan Welch singled in the game's only run. Altoona took game two much more handily, 8-1. Brandon Cumpton allowed one run over six innings and Vic Black had a 1-2-3 9th with one K. Matt Curry drove in four with a three-run HR, his 8th, and a groundout. Brock Holt, still finding purpose in life, went 3-4 with three runs scored. Adalberto Santos went 2-3 with a triple and is hitting .388.
-P- Bradenton got shut out by Daytona, 2-0. Eliecer Navarro pitched well, allowing two runs, one earned, in five innings on four hits and no walks. Alex Dickerson had a double in four ABs.
-P- West Virginia toppled Lakewood, 6-0, with Mike Jefferson, Zac Fuesser and Robbie Kilcrease combining on a six-hit shutout. Alen Hanson returned to the lineup following what was apparently a timeout and went 2-5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Willy Garcia went 2-4 with two doubles, Jose Osuna 2-3 with a double and a walk, and Gregory Polanco 2-5.
-P- State College won both the completion of yesterday's game and the regularly scheduled game over Connecticut. The suspended game resumed with the score 4-4 in the 7th and the Spikes picked up two in the 8th to win, 6-4. Jason Creasy started and allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in four innings. He fanned three. Tyler Gaffney went 2-3 with a hit batsman. Jacob Stallings went 2-4 with a double and three RBIs. The Spikes took control of the regularly scheduled game with four runs in the 7th and won, 9-4. Gaffney stayed hot, going 3-3 with two more hit batsmen, a triple, two steals and four runs scored. Gaffney is now hitting .388 and has been plunked a dozen times in just 20 games. He has 13 hits in his last 17 ABs. Not to be outdone, Barrett Barnes went 2-3 with a double, his 5th HR, two walks and three RBIs. Jodaneli Carvajal went 2-4. Clario Perez started and had a lot more luck than his last time out, giving up one run in four innings.
-P- The GCL Pirates beat the Braves, 5-1. Cesar Lopez threw five shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks, and fanning two. Dilson Herrera went 2-4 with his 6th HR and Luis Urena hit his 3rd HR.
-P- The DSL Pirates1 lost to the Red Sox, 3-1. Leandro Rodriguez allowed a run in three innings and Cesilio Pimentel gave up an unearned run in three innings. Tomas Morales went 3-4 with a double and Maximo Rivera went 2-4.
-P- The DSL Pirates2 lost to the Yankees1, 11-1. The Bucs had just two hits, one of them Angelo Del Castillo's first pro HR. The pitching was bad.
