Pirates Minor League Roundup: Altoona Wins With a Comeback; Jason Creasy Has a Good Start

Somewhat light schedule on Monday, with Indianapolis and West Virginia off. Of course, they have a lot of the most interesting players now. Thank goodness somebody's playing, because with things going the way they are in Pittsburgh, I WANT BASEBALL.

-P- Altoona rallied for two in the bottom of the 9th to top Birmingham, 3-2. Up until then, the only Altoona run came on Robbie Grossman's 7th HR, his only hit in four ABs. Binghamton broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the 8th. In the bottom of the 9th, Matt Curry and Jarek Cunningham both walked with one out. Stefan Welch tied the game with a single, then #FreeBrockHolt won it with another. Phil Irwin had a good start, allowing one run in six innings on five hits and three walks. He fanned four and also hit a double. Oscar Tejeda went 2-4.

-P- Bradenton lost to St. Lucie, 4-1. Casey Sadler started and went five, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks, with four Ks. Mel Rojas, Jr., and Gift Ngoepe each went 2-4, with Rojas hitting a double.

-P- State College dropped a 2-1 decision to Vermont. The Spikes had a chance at least to tie it in the 9th, but they got Hurdled. They had two on and one out, but the game ended on a strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play. Jason Creasy allowed one run over five innings. He gave up five hits, walked none and struck out one. Ryan Hornback and Jacob Stallings each went 1-2 with a double and a walk. Barrett Barnes sat out his second straight game, so he may have some minor injury.

-P- The GCL Pirates lost a tough one to the Yankees in extra innings. The game was scoreless until Stetson Allie hit his 2nd HR in the top of the 12th, but a hit, two walks and an error let in two runs in the bottom half to give the Yankees the game. Everybody's favorite Lithuanian baseball player, Dovydas Neverauskas, had a good start, throwing give shutout innings while allowing two hits and two walks, and fanning four. Aneudy Merejo threw two perfect innings in relief, fanning two. He now has 12 Ks in eight innings. Dilson Herrera went 2-4.

-P- The DSL Pirates1 lost to the Rangers, 7-1. Two pitchers who are supposed to be potential prospects had differing results. Adrian Grullon went four innings and allowed a run on three hits and two walks while fanning six. Christian Henriquez went two-thirds of an inning and allowed three hits, one walk and six unearned runs. Maximo Rivera went 2-4 and is now hitting .405.

-P- The DSL Pirates2 lost to the Mets1, 3-1. Nobody of note did anything of note.
