Pirates' Minor League Roundup: Seven Shutout Innings for Chris Leroux; Four Perfect Innings for Tyler Glasnow

Bradenton was rained out on Saturday, but everybody else saw action.

-P- Chris Leroux went seven innings as Indianapolis shut out Columbus, 4-0. Leroux allowed just three hits and a walk, and fanned four. Dan McCutchen pitched the last two, allowing a hit and striking out three. Too bad the Pirates don't need any pitching help . . . or do they? Yamaico Navarro, Tony Sanchez and Brandon Boggs all went deep, the 7th for Navarro and Sanchez, the 8th for Boggs.

-P- Altoona edged Trenton, 5-4. Phil Irwin didn't have quite as good a start as most of his recent ones, but he allowed only three runs, two earned, over six innings. He gave up six hits and two walks, and fanned three. Vic Black recovered from allowing game-losing HRs twice recently to fan the side in the 9th for the save. He now has 71 whiffs in 50.1 IP. Closer material? We report, you decide. On the offensive side, Matt Curry went 2-2 with a walk and Oscar Tejeda went 2-4 with two doubles.

-P- West Virginia, still playing without its two big stars, dropped Lexington, 4-3. Robby Rowland allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out four, but hurt himself with a hit batsman, two wild pitches, an error and a balk. Dan Gamache went 4-5 with a double; he's been red hot since the SAL All-Star break. You have to bear in mind that he was drafted from a major college program (Auburn), but on the other hand he won't turn 22 until November, so he isn't much older than the numerous Latin players with the Power. Willy Garcia hit his 15th HR and Eric Avila his 4th.

-P- State College beat Jamestown, 5-2. Luis Heredia had some control issues, a problem he hasn't had much this year, walking four in five innings, but he allowed only three hits. He struck out two and was charged with two runs. Clario Perez followed with four shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk, and fanning six. Jesus Vazquez went 3-4 and fell a double short of a cycle, with the HR being his 2nd. Walker Gourley and D.J. Crumlich each went 2-4 with a double. Tyler Gaffney continued getting on base at a prodigious rate, going 1-3 with two walks.

-P- The GCL Pirates got four perfect innings from Tyler Glasnow and beat the Phillies, 3-2. Glasnow fanned five. Elvis Escobar went 3-4 with a double and Jonathan Schwind went 2-4 with a double.

-P- There was no box score available for the DSL Pirates1.

-P- The DSL Pirates2 beat the Mets1, 7-1. Mervin Del Rosario started and went five, allowing an unearned run on four hits while striking out four. Gustavo Barrios went 2-3 with a walk and is now hitting .329, albeit with no power.
