The Pirates have promoted Jeff Clement and sent Yamaico Navarro back to the minors. I'm pretty surprised that the Pirates finally decided to do this. They didn't promote Clement when they were in the midst of DH interleague series and he was hitting well, and now he's tailed off at Indianapolis (his OPS there is actually now lower than Navarro's was), and they're finally calling him up. I figured they thought of him purely as an organizational player at this point. This balances the bench a bit better, at least -- it didn't make sense for the Pirates to continue to carry Josh Harrison, Jordy Mercer and Navarro, although they now have three first basemen, including two guys in Clement and Gaby Sanchez who play first almost entirely.
